It’s that time of year again.
The time when you’re getting stressed out from reading your syllabus, expectations, work, and extracurricular activities. If you’re someone like me, you probably already went through the series of having a mini breakdown because you don’t know how you’re going to survive this semester or new year ahead of you.
But, NOT TODAY SATAN!
I have 5 tips that I personally use that helps me stay organized and one step ahead of everything. By following these 5 tips listed below, I’ve been able to maintain a 4.0 GPA while still being able to have a REAL life.
1. Get a Planner. Or Planner App
It’s true. Having a planner and actually utilizing it will help you stay organized because it provides a calendar to give you a clear view of your week ahead and notes section to jot down anything that you need to do. For the techie folks, the best planner apps to use in my opinion are Calendars and Any.do.
I loveeee using Calendars (on the right) the most because I can see everything that I have planned as if I’m using a real planner that’s in front of me. Any.do (on the left) includes many lists including grocery lists which I like about this app.
2. Do Your Work Ahead of Time
The best way to stay ahead is to work ahead. It can be hard to do sometimes because life happens. But if you can, it’ll probably be one of the best things that you do. Planning everything out at the beginning of every week or month will save you so much stress.
3. Set Goals
Setting goals is one of my favorite things to do. Setting goals motivates you to accomplish pretty much anything that you desire. For an example, if you have an assignment due in a week, make it a goal of yours to finish it by Friday so that way you can do whatever you want for the weekend. At the beginning of every new week, sit down and write out everything that you want to accomplish. If it doesn’t get done in one week, add it to the next one.
Rule of thumb: if you write it down, get it done.
4. Learn How To Say “No”
One of the hardest things for me to do ever but if I wanted to be successful— it became something that I had to get comfortable with doing. Learning how to say “no” to hanging out with friends to finish that assignment or study for your upcoming exam. Learning how to say “no” to the parties and kickbacks because honestly they will always be there. It will always be a party next weekend and the one that you missed probably got shut down anyway.
5. Disconnect From The Noise & Relax
Disconnecting from social media, your phone and people in general is something that most people should do every once in awhile. Doing this for me personally, gave me time to get myself together and cater to my own needs like washing my hair, doing laundry, or catching up on all of my shows that I missed throughout the week. Also, the intro-extrovert in me needed to do this weekly to reboot because life and people in general can be draining. Overall, unplugging is healthy for keeping stress away and wasting too much on the internet.
